Code of Practice (COP) - Quality System

The purpose - of the Code of Practice (COP) is to establish quality standards for the operation of Telecare Response Services. The COP provides a framework of operating procedures and outcomes by which a service should be judged.

Achievement of the asap COP quality standard will help to ensure that customers receive a safe, reliable, consistent and continuous high quality service. Increasingly the provision of Telecare Services will require certification to the asap quality standard.

The Scope - of the COP applies to Telecare Response Services of all sizes operating in the UK public & private sector and provides a Strategic Framework within which to deliver the three distinct business activities in social alarm or telecare services.

The COP Strategic Framework is enhanced by Operational Procedure requirements:

Part 1 - Telecare Call Handling - to cover Telecare Response Centres

Part 2 - Telecare Installation - to cover the installation of telecare equipment in the homes of service users

Part 3 - Mobile Response - to cover routine or emergency mobile response services

Benchmarking - against the asap COP at four levels

  1. as a guide for individuals & organisations to telecare services
  2. aspirational quality procedures for asap members to reach the standard
  3. as a gap audit tool to measure progress in preparation for seeking accredition to the asap standard
  4. as validation of asap COP standard by independent auditors.
